THE Tamar Valley Line Sunday Service between Gunnislake and Plymouth returns this Sunday (February 23).

Since early January, Network Rail have been carrying out much-needed engineering work on the line. This has included some re-railing and steel sleeper replacement as well as the general replacement of wooden sleepers along the track. For the last six weeks, a replacement bus service has been in operation between Gunnislake and Plymouth.

To celebrate the resumption of the Sunday service, Wessex Trains are offering a special ?Mad March Fare?. The flat fare will be available for travel between any two stations along the line every Sunday during March.

Stephanie Green of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, said: ?With spring just around the corner, the Tamar Valley Line Sunday service offers a great opportunity to local people wanting to get out on a Sunday.

?There are some good walking routes and local pubs that are easily accessible from the line?s intermediate station, and of course, there is always plenty to do in Plymouth, even on a Sunday.?

Year round Sunday trains were reinstated on the Tamar Valley Line in September 2001, when funding was provided for four trains to be run each way. This winter the timetable has been extended to include five trains.

Details of times and fares can be obtained from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950, which is charged at local call rates.
