THE whole village of Monkokehampton turned out as the sun shone down on the annual village fun day last Saturday. Residents joined in old-fashioned events like the children?s egg-and-spoon race, while the men?s sack race was especially closely fought. The make-a-scarecrow competition was won by the Butler family?s policeman ? pointing his hair dryer speed gun towards oncoming traffic. Winner of the duck race was J Murrin, and the winning lemon sponge was made by Anita Pierce. The day was declared open by Mrs Enid Stentiford, who was presented with a bouquet by Emily Hansen. Mrs Stentiford judged the scarecrow and cake competitions. Visitors relaxed in the shade of a large marquee to enjoy home-made cream teas and the refreshment tent proved popular. Thanks to the generosity of many people, the produce stall was loaded with local plants, fruit and vegetables, and plenty of home-cooked offerings. Skill games, face painting and a bouncy castle kept the children entertained and clay pigeon shooting was another popular activity.
