FARMS for City Children will be holding their first summer fete for more than ten years this weekend.

The event will be held in the beautiful grounds of Nethercott House near Iddesleigh where the charity takes young people from urban schools for a residential course on a real working farm.

The fete starts at 2.30pm this Saturday, June 26, followed by ?Its A Knockout? team games at 4.30pm. There will be a variety of stalls selling local produce as well as fun and games for all the family. Visitors can also enjoy the splendid Victorian walled garden or take a look inside Nethercott House itself.

Farms for City Children was established more than 25 years ago and aims to enrich the lives of children from the inner cities by giving them the opportunity to spend a week in the countryside getting involved in life on the farm.

For many of the primary school pupils, a trip to Nethercott Farm is their first chance to see animals such as cows, sheep and pigs up close and to learn more about man?s relationship with the land. Farms for City Children aim to provide an unforgettable experience for all the youngsters, as well as instilling a sense of satisfaction at a job done well.

The charity tries to replicate as closely as possible a farmer?s working day, which means a 7.30am start for the children before tucking into a hearty breakfast.
