RECENTLY my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the new community garden at the Okehampton Ockment Centre.
It is fair to say we were both massively impressed by the scene which greeted us. To have converted what was virtually a piece of ?no man?s land? into something of striking beauty is enormous credit to Tim Argles. The flair and imagination to provide this spectacle is almost certainly down to him.
Nevertheless, the other members of his team have all contributed to something of which they can all be justly proud.
This plus the care and attention which is being lavished on
Simmons Park indicates how fortunate we are to live in such an environment.
Our visit to the garden was sadly marred when the damage being done by vandals was pointed out. Beautiful flowering trees have been ruined in acts of wanton destruction.
It is especially pleasing that the local police do not suspect the younger people of the area. My sincere wish is that whoever might be responsible for this extremely anti-social behaviour is brought to account before the law.
