Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club?s first game of the week saw them facing a squad from Wadebridge on Sunday for a friendly six rink triples match. The match ended as a 75-97 defeat for the Tavistock players after each side won three rinks. Tavistock skip Barry Chappell and his crew of Mike Felles and Henny Bawden were drawing 7-7 at the halfway stage and then won six ends to finish their game as 15-10 victors. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Marlene Paramor and Brian Ellicott won 16-12 thanks to a similar revival in the second half of their game, which saw them pick up 11 shots. Skip Hazel Lovell and her team of Pat Sykes and Stuart Tremaine, won 16-10 after winning 11 of the 18 ends played. Losing skips were Ernie Piper (5-27), Norman Paramor (7-18) and Vic Stacey (16-20). Monday saw the men?s evening league team travel to Plymouth for a match against Mount Gould. The squad returned to Tavistock having won the encounter 99-65 after success on three of the four rinks played. Skip Mike Allen led his crew to a 24-17 victory and skip Vic Stacey and his squad won 32-15. Skip Clive Jago led his team to a 30-9 victory and skip Malcolm Bloomer saw his squad go down, 13-24. Wednesday?s afternoon friendly mixed match against local neighbours Bere Alston fell foul of the weather and was cancelled much to the disappointment of both clubs. Friday saw the men?s evening league team facing Bere Alston men on the Tavistock green, for a four rink match which could not have been more closely contested. Bere Alston men returned home having won the match 67-66 despite Tavistock winning two of the rinks and drawing on another.
