KELLY College Swimming Pool is one of many pools that take part in the annual British Long Distance swimming event. The idea is to swim as far as possible within one hour. It is open to all ages of swimmers, from under 10s to 85 years plus, and this year there were a total of 1,667 swimmers who took part. The event took place last February, although the results have only just been released, with several people in the local community achieving great results. Ella Ellis, who was only six years old during the event, swam 1,850 metres (74 lengths) and came 114th out of 168 in the under 10s category. Brian Wilson once again managed to scoop the gold medal in the H1 category, competing 3,140 metres within the hour. Nicola Cutts succeeded in getting a silver medal in her age group, swimming 3,363 metres. Further results in the various age group categories were Margaret Gregory 13th (2,365m), Pauline Cooper 16th (1,763m), Corrie Grice 14th (2,063m), Gary Collard 8th (3,751m), Yana Fox 23rd (1688m), Wendy Cooper 20th (2,751m), Chris Judd 68th (2,012m) and Clare Short 13th (2,781m).
