Okehampton Columbines 2
Marjons II 0
OKEHAMPTON Ladies' hockey team knew they were in for a rough game against top of the league Marjons, but they played well and deservedly won.
With Marjohns' more experienced players at the back, they found the pace of Okehampton's two young forwards, Jo Moppett and Kelly Cooper, difficult to cope with.
Moppett put in some good crosses from the right wing which troubled the Marjohns' defence, before she and Cooper scored two stunning goals before half-time to give Columbines a welcome cushion.
Okehampton remained solid in defence with calm performances from Sandy Douglas, Elaine Morgan and Jo Stephens at the back.
Jane Jones and Alex Collins did not allow much to get past them down the left and right flanks and slick and accurate passing gave Columbines the advantage.
Okehampton began to flag towards the end and Sharon Stephens, who had had little to do in the goal up to then, had to be alert to ensure a well-earned victory.
This week, Okehampton are home again in the league against Chudleigh.
