I WOULD like to thank all the people who were involved in the 'political speed dating' event which was held on February 4 in Tavistock Town Hall.

This event is held in conjunction with Tavistock College and I think it is important to engage young people with local issues.

I thank Tavistock tutor Helen Harris, her students, the councillors and the town hall staff for attending.

The elected councillors represented diverse areas, from Sampford Spiney to Sydenham Damerel, Okehampton to Tavistock and Horrabridge, and were parish, town, borough and county representatives.

The 24 students asked councillors questions about local issues for five minutes, the bell rang and off the students moved on to another table to ask another councillor questions.

The students were excellent and a credit to their parents, the college and more importantly themselves. Well done!
