A NUMBER of students from the Military Academy at Duchy College Stoke Climsland have successfully secured employment within the Armed Forces after achieving top grades during a rigorous two-day selection process at the Army Development and Selection Centre. Among the students was Ryan Baker from Tavistock, who was one of the first to learn of their success in the selection process and they are now waiting to start their phase one training. The students took part in demanding recruitment days which involved academic and physical tests, command and leadership assessments and a final interview where they were assessed on their job knowledge, confidence and maturity. As part of their course Rich Hunt from the Army Careers office in Plymouth visited the college to give mock interviews and feedback to all of the Military Academy students. At the end of the day he led a question and answer session on the application and selection process. Rich Hunt said: 'I interviewed some really quite confident students who I am sure will develop their confidence more. It's brilliant to come here because they're always very keen.' Course manager Jamie Crisp said: 'It is fantastic news that so many of our students have secured jobs in the forces. The mock interview days reiterated to the students the direct link to industry that the Military Academy has. 'Seeing a military career officer that they don't know brings them out of their comfort zone, challenges their commitment and highlights areas for improvement. 'It's about setting targets that produce realistic exit strategies linked to careers in the Armed Forces.' Duchy College Military Academy has three different levels of course designed to prepare applicants for the Armed Forces. These range from fast-track 16 week courses to 12-month courses for those who require longer preparation.
