A TEENAGE voluntary worker was left in floods of tears last week after her treasured first car was badly damaged in a Tavistock town centre car park.
Olivia Huggins, known as Livvy, a 17-year-old former Tavistock College student, had stopped at the Brook Street car park last Tuesday to get some shopping in Somerfield.
She had only left the car park for about half an hour, when she returned to find her Ford Ka with the passenger door completely stoved in, and the side of the car?s bodywork scratched and scored down to the metal.
Her mother, Karen Colam, said: ?She phoned me in floods of tears, saying ?Why did this happen to me??
?She?s given up two weeks of her summer holiday to work at the All Out summer school at Mary Tavy, she?s getting no payment for it, and someone destroys her car and hasn?t even got the decency to leave a note.?
Karen said Olivia, who is now studying for her International Baccalaureate at Truro College, only recently passed her driving test and the metallic blue Ka was her pride and joy.
?We live out in the sticks and she needed something to get to college and back. She works every evening to finance it herself.
?What sort of an example is this type of behaviour to a young driver?,? asked Karen, who appealed to anyone who might have seen the incident to contact her or the police.
?Whoever did it must have some obvious damage to the back or front of their car ? I just hope if they read this, their conscience might prick them,? she said.
Anyone with information can call Karen Colam on 01208 862666 or Tavistock Police on 08452 777444, quoting log 707 of July 28.
