TAVISTOCK College students headed to County Hall in Exeter this week to attend a forum entitled ?Don?t Let Devon Go To Waste?.
The event was a schools-based initiative aimed at encouraging secondary school students to tackle waste management issues.
Speakers included representatives from Viridor Waste Management, the Eden Project, Devon Wildlife Trust and Devon Community Recycling Network as well as Devon County Council and district council members.
The young people took part in various workshops and debates and embarked on some action planning targetted at cutting waste production.
Devon County Council?s executive member for environment Cllr David Morrish said: ?The aim of the day is to involve young people in the important decision-making process of what should happen to Devon?s rubbish by increasing their awareness of the issues surrounding waste management, exploring how they can make a difference and enthusing them to take positive action.?
As part of the campaign students were asked to prepare ?waste-free lunch boxes? with as little disposable packaging as possible.
The school with the least rubbish to dispose of at the end of lunch won a cash prize.
