STAFF from Tavistock College managed to coax a distressed student down from the roof of a school building last Thursday.

The female student got on to the roof around lunchtime and was there 'for some time' before she was persuaded by staff to come down for her own safety.

College principal Colin Eves confirmed that a school student went onto the roof when she had become distressed.

He told the Times: 'As a precaution we did call the emergency services to make sure everybody was kept safe, although they were not needed.

'Members of staff thankfully were able to manage the situation, bring her down and get her somewhere safe.

'Our main priority is people's safety and in this case the appropriate action was taken.'
