OKEHAMPTON College A-level student Liz Wayne has made her first appearance on the professional stage with a national dance company.

Liz, 16, was one of 100 young people who took up the offer by the London-based contemporary dance company Rambert to be involved in a workshop at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth during half term.

The finale of the week was performing an hour-long show 'First Moves and Second Steps' with the company in front of an audience of 1,000 in the main theatre.

The student from Northlew, who is studying drama, dance, music and French at A-level, said even though this was her first time on a professional stage she was not nervous 'just excited.'

'I really enjoyed it,' she said. 'It was fantastic and the whole week was really good fun.'

The workshop, which cost £10, was open to anyone, irrespective if they had dance experience or not. Liz said the dance steps were quite simple but effective. Participants also had the opportunity to make up their own steps.

Liz, who also plays flute and saxophone, said the experience would definitely help her in her studies: 'It has given me more ideas for making up dances and ways to teach them in the future.'

She plans to study performing arts at university and eventually perform in the West End.
