POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a student was hurt during a shooting incident at Tavistock College last week. College principal Colin Eves said the incident happened during the school lunch break last Friday ? the shot was fired from outside the school grounds. Mr Eves said the male student was shocked but not seriously hurt in the incident. He said: ?We have a high level of supervision in the grounds, we employ a large team of break and lunchtime supervisors, but obviously you can?t guard against someone chosing to do this sort of thing from outside the school. ?It is worrying when this sort of thing happens but we will continue to be vigilant and seek to gather information on who was responsible.? Sgt Bob Hughes of Tavistock Police said officers were called to the school at 1.10pm. He said: ?It would appear to be a shot from a very low powered air rifle or BB gun. The round that was fired didn?t pierce the student?s clothing or skin, just left a red mark, and he was able to continue lessons.? Sgt Hughes said it was believed the shot was fired from the woods by Tavistock Canal. ?A search was made in the woods and nothing was found. Ongoing enquiries are continuing with the school,? said Sgt Hughes. He asked anyone with any information regarding the incident to call Tavistock Police Station on 08452 777444, quoting crime ref JT/05/1395.
