Bude U14s 0 Okehampton U14s 0 OKEHAMPTON?S young rugby team was unable to break Bude?s unbeaten record this season as both sides? strong defences held firm. Bude just had the edge in the first half and Okehampton created the better chances in the second, but most of the game was played in the middle half of the pitch. Good breaks by Carl Poynton, Dan Braime and Rob Long tested Bude?s defence but with very sticky ground conditions moving the ball was difficult. Scott Simpson carried the ball well, taking several defenders to stop him. In defence wing forwards Richard Friend and Jake Chisholm were tireless, Luke Crocker never far behind, backs Rory Honeychurch, Carl Goodall, Alex Vincent and Poynton rarely missed their man. This week at home to local rivals Tavistock. Okehampton U13s 54 Torrington U13s 0 THIS was a very solid performance played in excellent conditions at Taw Meadow. Torrington certainly had the size advantage in the forwards, but the slick handling of the home side proved to be the telling factor. Special mention must go to Jack Phare who scored his first try for the team, then went on to score a hat-trick, and Hugh Draper had a good debut in attack and defence. Andy North controlled the game from fly-half making a couple of tries and scoring one himself. Rob Stepto and Will Hawkin both made their presence felt, and bagged a try apiece, as did Cameron Rickerby, Kevin Dennis, Darcy Heard and James Ewen, with North and Dennis getting a conversion each. This week: Friday; Astro Turf 6:30, Sunday: away to Tavistock. Tiverton U10s 10 Okehampton U10s 20 THE under 10 squad ventured into East Devon to play a late fixture against Tiverton. The day was bright and dry but the temperature hovered just above freezing. Tiverton had arranged the match on a little-used pitch so there was the bonus of playing on a soft grassed area. Okehampton kicked off and were soon into their usual rhythm and attacking strongly. Good defensive work by the Tiverton squad stopped early attempts at crossing the line. Following a free pass Tiverton broke away and crossed the line. Okehampton responded immediately and a surge by the back division put Josh over the line. After the break Okehampton went in with a will and soon Dean was touching the ball down to even the score. Okehampton kept up the pressure with excellent scrum work by Matt, Dean and Cameron both in the set pieces and the rucks. They were ably supported by the backs who fought for every yard gained. Josh had to take a few minutes off the field to recover from a series of hard, high tackles and sportingly Tiverton took off one of their players. Both were soon back on. Play continued and Okehampton?s Dean and Jordan put in good work and were rewarded with a try each. It was a hard, tough match which Okehampton deservedly won.
