A FLEDGLING musical group in West Devon has just reached a milestone in its history ? its first birthday. And this week the band launched an appeal for more members and possibly a sponsor to help boost its identity. The Moorland Concert Band was started last year by music teachers David Gray and Jenni Martin and is based in the Walkhampton area. It caters for beginners and intermediate brass and woodwind players and practises in the Memorial Hall in Walkhampton on Sundays, between 9.30am and 11am. David said: ?On a good day we can have up to 40 of us, from the age of seven upwards, but we?d definitely welcome some more players, whether they are adults or youngsters. ?We had some successful summer concerts at school fairs and at Tavistock College and we?ve just had our first Christmas concert.? David said the group had managed to raise £300, which it would like to put towards some band T-shirts to be worn at forthcoming concerts. ?If there are any companies around that would like to help us buy some T-shirts, we?d love to hear from them,? he said. Anyone who would like to join the band, provide any sponsorship or book a concert should call David Gray on 01822 854888 or 07813 387025.
