WEST Devon residents have the opportunity to take to the streets to celebrate another royal occasion this summer.

Devon County Council is again offering a free application service which successfully helped communities come together for last year's royal wedding.

To make it as easy as possible for residents to hold street parties to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee over the extended bank holiday weekend (June 2 to 5), street party organisers simply have to fill out an application form and a declaration and submit them to the county council.

Anyone planning a street party for the Diamond Jubilee can apply to the council for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order to close a minor road, free of charge.

Especially for the event, the notice period for closures has been reduced from three months to six weeks, and applications need to be submitted by Friday, April 20.

Organisers will only face a charge if No Waiting cones are needed.
