THANK YOU for the article in the Times on July 31 regarding use of my locality budget. Tavistock Town Council was not mentioned which I feel they could be, because they painted the band stand and were instrumental in tidying the town with weed pulling, and generous sprucing up! Also a big thank you to the increasing number of residents who put in the extra effort to keep areas around their properties tidy. The removal of the street clutter was a wish of mine however, the public were asked at the public engagement event which was held a couple of years ago when the Tavistock Traffic Management was being considered. The emergency services, all layers of local government, Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council and Tavistock Town Council, plus about 450 members of the public, and a very high percentage of those who were asked, thought there was unnecessary street clutter. Also Abbey Rise and Whitchurch Road by Abbey Rise are in a poor state of repair. Highways and I have realised this and have wanted to improve the road surface. I am informed today that there is extra money from central government and Abbey Rise and Whitchurch Road resurfacing will be done. Clearly we are very happy about this because it has been irking us for a long time. Some councillors have been Tweeting their angst and I hope are now glad to be informed of these long awaited repairs. Cllr Debo Sellis Devon County Councillor
