MORE than five and a half tonnes of rubbish was picked up by a dedicated team of street cleaners after Goose Fair day in Tavistock last week.
As thousands of fairgoers left the town and stall-holders packed up, the West Devon Borough Council contract workers moved in for the big clean-up operation.
Starting at 2am, the 24 staff from FCC Environment worked against the clock to make the streets tidy again by dawn.
It took the team just four hours to remove five point six tonnes of waste from the streets, parks and residential gardens in the centre of town.
More than one point one tonnes of card was recycled.
Their efforts left the streets spick and span for residents and businesses returning to normal after the town's busiest day of the year.
