RHS Garden Rosemoor, in Great Torrington is getting distinctly fruity this summer with a traditional Strawberry Fayre, celebrating everyone's favourite summer fruit.

The scrumptious strawberry will take centre stage at Rosemoor for the fayre on Saturday, July 4, from 10am to 5pm.

Visitors can try their luck at a whole variety of traditional English side shows, including a coconut shy, taste some fruity dishes in the restaurant, as well as enjoy a delicious hog roast, while the children can take part in sports-day style races or listen to story-telling.

Diana Gilding, events supervisor at Rosemoor, said: 'The Strawberry Fayre is an exciting new event for 2009. We're hoping the sun will shine and we've got lots going on so a great day out is guaranteed for everyone. It really will be all the fun of the fair!'

The day is part of the RHS 'Grow Your Own' campaign, sponsored by NS&I, which has returned with renewed vigour and a fruit flavoured theme.

Building on the success of the previous years' campaigns, 2009 continues to encourage vegetable growers across the country, while inspiring the nation to also give growing fruit a try.

Since its launch in 2007, the RHS Grow Your Own campaign has galvanised over half a million people into growing their own.

The campaign highlights the fact that you do not need acres of space to get growing and that more British people can turn to gardening to reduce the amount they spend on food and save money.
