THE letter by Mrs J Williams (Times, June 21) says everything about shopping in Tavistock.

The town has many interesting little shops but when it comes to buying a week's groceries for a family there really is no choice but to go to Okehampton (not much better), Launceston (pretty good) or Plymouth (first class).

Tavistock is stuck with a two very small Co-op shops and a Lidl store to try to compete with Morrisons, which is invariably overcrowded with long queues.

The sooner West Devon Borough Council stops bickering and gives active encouragement to Sainsbury's, Tesco or Asda to take over the old Focus site the better Tavistock will be for the ever growing number of residents.
