LARGE stones from the moorland have been placed in the middle of the Tavistock to Princetown road, causing great danger to motorists at night.

Tavistock police have appealed for information after stones have been placed out in the carriage-way around half a dozen times over the past month. The large stones have been placed at various points along the road, with the most recent incident taking place at Merryvale last week.

Police say they are amazed that there have so far been no serious accidents caused by these reckless actions. The stone obstacles along the carriage-way have each time been placed during the evening.

Police believe that the perpetrator could be someone with local knowledge holding a grudge. They say the stone moving is unlikely to be the work of children, but someone with transport who is able to get to various points along the road at night.

Tavistock police have asked motorists and residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour along the carriage-way and they ask anyone with information relating to the incident to contact them on 08705 777444.
