A FORMER mayor of Tavistock will be exhibiting her hand-made artist's books in the town during the course of the Tavistock Sings music and arts festival later this month.

Caroline Keane will exhibit her book, a love story entitled 'The Stone Carrier and the Shoemaker from Madras' at Bookstop in Tavistock during the festival from March 26 to May 2.

The books include poetry, photographs and water colours depicting a period of her life spent between West Devon, Sri Lanka and India from 2001 to 2004.

Caroline initiated the annual dawn chorus event held at Merrivale, celebrating May Day with music, song and dance as part of the Tavistock Sings music and arts festival.

She also set up the West Devon stone-carrying community project in 2006 on Dartmoor shortly after completing this book.

It was intended to carry on the ancient African tradition of stone-carrying.

It takes place along historic pilgrimage tracks across Dartmoor.

Caroline combines music, art and dance in her workshops, which she took into primary schools, community centres and village halls across West Devon. Her paintings are being exhibited at the Wharf Café, the Terrace Restaurant and South West Crafts.
