The sheer amount of football played by the squad seemed to be having an effect and in the first half neither side could stamp any authority on the game. Lamerton went in front five minutes before half time when Paul Cowling set up Steve Roast who scored from close range. The second half saw Polperro equalize and the game went into extra time. With both teams down to ten men Lamerton?s greater fitness was beginning to show and they began to dominate. However, from a rare corner, a Polperro defender headed their second goal with seven minutes to go. With time running out and the light beginning to fade a Steve Wickett corner was headed on by Steve Gibbings and Kev Swift put the ball in from close range at the second attempt and the game went to penalties. Keeper Pete Daniel was hero of the hour saving two of the Polperro penalties with Cowling Gibbings and Wickett successful for Lamerton. Paul Cowling then got a couple and Wickett got his second to make the half time score 5-0. The second half saw Lamerton ease off a little but they still added another three goals courtesy of Steve Gibbings (2) and Cowling who completed his hat -trick taking his total to 48 for the season. It was left to Simon Breyley to pick up Lamerton?s third trophy of the week from Colin Burrell of the Duchy League management committee.
