Liddon Cup quarter-final

Winkleigh 2nds 1

Okehampton Argyle 3rds 2

OKEHAMPTON claimed their third scalp from the division above them in a competitive and entertaining match.

Winkleigh applied early pressure but Steve Trigger and Steve Paddon marshalled the back four, with Kingsley Arthurs and Nigel Rowcliffe keeping Winkleigh's two wide front men quiet with some fine defending.

Okehampton fell behind against the run of play when the wind curled a corner in under the bar catching keeper Neil Clift unaware.

The second half saw Okehampton dominate but superb keeping and brave defending saw Winkleigh keep it tight at the back.

Nicky Jones came on for Jamie Back who had worked tirelessly. His smart pass went to Mark Gibson who crossed for Tim Shaw to half volley past the keeper for the equaliser.

Minutes later with Okehampton looking to go forward a quality long ball from Steve Paddon fell sweetly for Robert Sandercock who volleyed with the outside of his boot to wrong foot the keeper and give Okehampton their deserved place in the semi-finals.

Man of the match Steve Paddon.
