AFTER losing against Lloyds Bank, Tavistock Squash team faced a tricky home tie against third placed David May Motors. No 5 Dave Ruffell found himself locked in a 5 set battle against his opponent. Dave took the opening game with relative ease but his opponent then got back into the match with a 10-8 win in the second game. Each player went on to win a further game each leaving the match level at 2 games all. With some punishing drives and accurate drop shots Dave took the 5th game 9-3. Mike Gray was locked in a similar 5 set struggle. With both players taking a game each, his opponent then stepped up the pace and took the 3rd game 9-0. With Mike?s confidence now a little low he needed to dig deep in order to get himself back in the match. He managed to take the 4th game 9-8 and the match was all set up for an exciting finish. Mike?s opponent continued to hit the ball with precision but Mike always came back with a response running out the winner 10-9 in the 5th. Will faced a tricky tie against seasoned campaigner Dave Cuthbert. The first game was closely fought and Will took it 9-8. Will then continued his excellent form this season and took the next two with relative ease. No 2 Pete Middleton?s form of late has been patchy. The match swung both ways and aboth players played some good squash. Pete found himself in a commanding position 2 games to 1 up but unfortunately could not finish the match off as his opponent levelled taking the 4th game. Pete then lost the final game. At this stage, Tavistock had won the match and it was up to Steve Tripp to see if he could maximise their overall points. Steve himself having only lost twice all season continued his run of good form and took the match with relative ease 3-0.
