A TAVISTOCK merchant is appealing to the public to help in tracking down a pair of thieves.

Sharon Evans, of the Tavistock Salvage Centre, on Market Road said two boys came into the centre trying to sell a distinctive oval 'Welcome' plaque decorated with hedgehogs.

She said she was suspicious of where it came from and told them she would have to hold on to it to work out a price. The boys then ran off, grabbing a statue on the way.

Sharon gave chase and the boys dropped the piece, leaving it looking like Milo's Venus — distinctive with its arms broken off, she said.

Sharon described one of the boys as 'chubby', with blonde curly hair and glasses. The other was about six foot tall, with short dark hair. Both were said to be aged about 15 or 16.

If anyone has any information please contact Tavistock police on 0990 777444 or the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.

The salvage centre was hit by thieves again on May 19. A distinctive, rusty Briggs and Stratton petrol mower, worth between £60 and £80, was taken from the yard. Sharon has offered a £10 reward for information leading to the return of the machine.
