IT?S full steam ahead for the Robey Trust Heritage Open Days this weekend with the ever popular Stumbles? trundling ? and an impressive array of stationary engines on display.
Because of several important recent acquisitions, the theme of the event will be stationary steam engines.
The doors of the New Perseverance Ironworks at the Pixon Land, Tavistock will be open on Saturday September 11, and Sunday 12 from 11am to 5pm and organisers hope the event will fire up plenty of enthusiasm for the subject.
Dave Davies, who is a Robey Trust trustee, said there was planning permission to expand the original facilities that were purchased with Heritage Lottery funding.
?This allows us to look at the history of the engineering, especially that of the Robey company, and to balance out and expand the collection we have,? he said.
?Robey doesn?t just mean things like Stumbles; their major output was big industrial stationary engines.?
The Robey Trust was formed in Tavistock in 1983 and is celebrating its 21st year. Members hope the weekend event, focussing more on the stationary items, will complement the steam fair which is held in June.
?We hope that once visitors come along and see what we are doing we might get some to join us. There are many restoration projects that people might like to get involved in,? said Mr Davies.
