THERE's an opportunity to learn more about the universe at a stargazing event on the Forestry Commission estate at Cookworthy Forest tomorrow (Friday).

Experienced astronomers will be on hand at the event, which starts at 8.30pm. There will be an informative talk and slide show followed by a short walk into the forest by torchlight, where people can view the stars and planets through very powerful telescopes.

The event is suitable for people over 12 years old and costs £8 per person, which includes tea and coffee. Stargazers should bring their own torches. Booking is essential — call 01392 834233.

The forest is also hosting a children's bushcraft event on Wednesday April 8.

There are two sessions, the first, for children aged between four and eight years old starts at 10am and finishes at 12pm. The second, for children aged eight to 12 years old runs from 1.30pm until 3.30pm. The cost is £6 per child and includes toasted marshmallows and a hot drink. Booking is essential – call 01392 834233.
