HARD-WORKING staff from Duchy College Stoke Climsland have just received two Star Awards and a further two nominations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to teaching and learning.

Cornwall College's annual Star Awards recognise the achievements of staff across the seven college sites, including Duchy College and Falmouth Marine School.  The awards were presented to staff at a glitzy ceremony which took place at the Carnmarth Hotel in Newquay on November 22.

The first award of the evening was presented to Andrew Dinner, an agricultural lecturer from Duchy College Stoke Climsland.  He scooped the award for outstanding improvement through innovation and inspiration.

Andrew has worked at Duchy College for five years.  At the ceremony Andrew was praised for his innovative use of technology which has enabled him to make assignments more visual for the students. His work has inspired his colleagues and helped to engage students who find written work difficult.

Skills for life lecturer Hannah Crisp from Tavistock received a Star Award for high quality.  Hannah was praised for supporting learners through designing and implementing alternative methods of assessment to give them the best chance of success.

Hannah said: 'It was lovely to be recognised through the Star Award nomination process and to actually win is the cherry on the cake! Duchy College is a great place to work and going above and beyond my job role is easy as I have the privilege of working with colleagues who are committed to learners and their success.'

Jane Hernandez, curriculum area manager for early years, forest school and playwork was nominated for outstanding leadership, while maintenance technician Brian Davis was nominated for his outstanding contribution in a business support role.
