A DOZEN teachers from Tavistock College, including principal John Simes, took to the water at Meadowlands swimming pool last weekend in a fully-clothed, fundraising swim to raise money for charity.
The 40 length swim was carried out wearing school uniform ? although some items of clothing did become detached during the swim!
The staff are now collecting their sponsor money, with the added incentive that the person collecting most sponsorship will be enjoying lunch at the Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy, donated by chef Peter Gorton.
David and Rosie Turner of Tavistock College won the other prize in the sponsored swim ? an evening meal for two at the Prince Hall Hotel near Princetown.
Organisers of the sponsored swim paid tribute to Rob Whitehead at Meadowlands for supporting the event, which they hope will have raised more than £1,000 for the library building project at Ndeeba School in Uganda.
The school has enjoyed curriculum and social links with Tavistock College students and staff for some years.
