AS PART of the Cornish St Piran celebrations this week, Callington Town Council dedicated a bench to former councillor Kath Pascoe in the Launceston Road Recreation Field.

Mrs Pascoe was a member of the town council for more than two decades and devoted much of her time to the community. She served as portreeve in 1993, 2000 and 2002 and was elected to Caradon District Council in 1993.

She lived in Kelly Bray with her husband, Bill, and their children and grandchildren were all brought up and still live in the area. She died in October 2011.

Portreeve and mayor Cllr Jeremy Gist said: 'It gives me great pleasure to see this bench dedicated to Kath, having served with her on the town council for many years.

'I can vouch to her hard work and dedication to our community. Knowing how proud she was of her Cornish roots, today being St Piran's Day is the most appropriate day we could have chosen.'

Town clerk Helen Dowdall added: 'The town council has been making commemorative benches throughout the last twelve months as part of the Jubilee celebrations, but also wanted to mark the occasion of St Piran's Day.

'The council maintains nearly 40 wayside benches throughout Callington and Kelly Bray, which are well used and appreciated by the general public'. Picture by James Bird
