Tavistock squash players travelled away to play a team all of whom work in the construction industry in the Plymouth area.

It was a successful evening earning a maximum 20 points. John Jameson started with a relatively easy 3-0 victory.

Andy Gauler, a regular player for the Devon League team, stepped in to play at number two and again had a relatively easy victory. Andy?s determination and at times awkward style of play was all too much for his opponent. He won his match 3 games to 1.

With Tavy having won the first two matches, it was Mike Gray next on court and he did not disappoint either.

After a dismal start losing the first game 9-0, Tavistock captain Steve Tripp gave Mike a few pointers in between games and this seemed to have the desired effect. Mike came out for the second game and was a different player. With a much more positive approach, Mike took the next 3 games.

This meant that Tavistock had won the overall match and it was now a matter of how many points they could secure.

Pete Middleton probably had the closest game in respect of his opponent being of a similar style. Pete?s game was overall a bit stronger than his opponent?s and this gave Tavistock another victory, with Pete coming out 3 games to 1. Last on court was Tavistock?s number one and Captain, Steve Tripp. Having had nearly 3 weeks out of the game, Steve made quite hard work of what should normally have been a formality.

Although no games were dropped and Steve looked a little tired at times, his overall control and ability to put the ball beyond the reach of his opponent, ensured that Tavy?s trip to Fort Stamford was highly successful.

The team return to action away to Devonshire at the beginning of November.
