Chagford 2

Newton Abbot Spurs Reserves 5

SPURS took the game to the hosts straight from the first whistle and played some sharp incisive football.

With both Chagford first and second choice 'keepers being injured, veteran Chris Ralph stood in but may have wondered what he had let himself in for.

A re-jigged home defence were forced back early and it was little surprise when Spurs scored, in the 17th minute. A long thrown ball was allowed to make its way right across the box and Scott MacArthur was on hand to force the ball over the line. Though Chagford huffed and puffed, they looked lightweight in their efforts at going

forward. With Botham taken off, on 30 minutes, Chagford failed to organise cover for the gap and Jake Helms was on hand to double the visitors' lead. The final 15 minutes of the half became a damage limitation exercise, though the Spurs 'keeper saw more of the ball but was largely untroubled.

Adam Richards extended Spurs' lead just before the hour mark. Then the visitor's Miller tried to go between two defenders and the referee pointed for a penalty as he was brought down — despite the Spurs' defence protests. Andrew Davis ignored the storm and banged home to spot-kick. The comeback was to be shortlived though with MacArthur belting a screamer past Ralph for the visitors' fourth.

Chagford threw caution to the winds and began to enjoy better possession and this was rewarded when Mark Williams went forward and sent his own thunderbolt into the roof of Spurs' net.

Despite being the more creative, at this point, Chagford were unable to provide the finish to the decent moves they realised they were capable of. It was a mis-directed free kick, from Chris Darke that set the seal on an extroadinary game and highlighted Chagford's luck of the day.

Kingsbridge and Kellaton 2

Chagford Reserves 4

HAVING been dumped out of the Intermediate Cup by Kingsbridge, Chagford had a taste for revenge and were to confidently take home the points.

Chagford skipper Jon Philpott got the party going, finishing well in the 15th minute. Playing up a sloping pitch Chagford did well to hold their opponents at bay, until stand-in 'keeper Will Cork was beaten just before the break. Cork had handled confidently and well in deputising for Geering.

The defence in front of him had been playing well in previous matches and dealt competently with attacks on the day. They were well supported by an organised midfield, leaving the forwards to concentrate on goal.

The second half belonged to the visitors, as they took the game to their hosts.

Chris Woof restored their lead with his third of the season, just past the hour. Despite knocking on the door, Chagford failed to finish off the game until Jon Scarry (80) and debutante Vince Reeves (85) both finished well.

The Kings did put in their own second but were were denied a comeback by a side determined to stand their ground.
