AS a volunteer with Tidy Tavy, I helped clear large quantities of litter and brambles from near the top end of Battery Lane, Tavistock, three weeks ago. There was some dog mess, but not much.

Since then one dog owner has evidently decided to use that stretch of the footpath as his or her dog's lavatory, while someone else has kindly (so that we don't step in it) highlighted where it is with yellow spray paint. I counted 22 illuminated deposits.

I remember that this method of deterring dog fouling was used, successfully I think, on Wilminstone Viaduct some time ago. Let's hope it works again!
