NOMINATIONS are being sought for a special award which recognises projects within the boundaries of Dartmoor National Park.
The Edward Morshead Award 2002 — presented in memory of the former chairman of the Dartmoor National Park Committee who died in office in 1989 — is given biennially for significant contributions to the National Park purposes.
These include the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the scenic beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the moor and the promotion of the understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities.
Presented by the DNPA, there are three separate prizes within the award scheme.
The first category has a first prize of a specially-commissioned trophy and a cash prize of £250. Second prize is £150 and third £100.
There is also a special award known as the Dartmoor Preservation Association Shield.
In addition, the Association offers a special recognition of outstanding conservation work carried out by young people under 21. This will comprise a shield and a cash prize of £100.
All entries received by the DNPA which relate to projects undertaken by young people will automatically be considered.
To qualify for any of the awards, the work or activity must take place within the boundaries of the National Park, although nominations and entries may be made by any Devon resident or county-based professional or voluntary body.
Individual projects of a practical nature contributing to landscape quality, ecological, archaeological or cultural conservation, or to the enjoyment and understanding can be entered.
Nominations can also be made for outstanding individual or corporate contributions.
Entries must relate to the two years prior to the closing date, which is September 30.
A leaflet and entry form is available from DNPA information centres or from 01822 890414.
