A TIME capsule was buried beneath a new parish boundary stone on Whitchurch Down on Rogation Sunday — one of Cllr Judith Williams first duties as new mayor of Tavistock.
The granite tablet marks the starting point of the new boundary markers being placed around the parish by Tavistock Lions Club as their special millennium celebration project.
The capsule was filled by the town council and includes various items of civic memorabilia.
Vicar of Tavistock the Rev John Rawlings performed a short service at the stone, before a group of about 30 Lions members, invited guests, and families walked a section of the parish boundary to Anderton lay-by.
The walkers finished off with a barbecue held at Lions member Mike Stephens' house.
Mr Stephens said it was 'a lovely gathering' and paid tribute to the organisations who had helped the club with their project.
'Merrivale Quarry very kindly gave us all the stone we needed, which was brilliant, and the Civic Society very generously helped,' he said.
Mr Stephens said schools in the area are filling time capsules which will be buried under other boundary stones later this summer.
