TEAM West Devon has started training for the prestigious Devon Youth Games, which is being staged in the county in June. And there is still time to get involved as trials for the event are about to begin or are in their early stages. The games, which celebrate youth sport, are due to take place in Newton Abbot on Saturday June 25 and will involve hundreds of young people from across Devon. The event is being sponsored by DML, and funded by Sport England. West Devon trials for eight of the sports taking place at the games are being held over the coming weeks and any children interested are welcome to come along. The dates of the trials, times and venues are as follows: l Athletics ? school years 4 to 6, girls and boys, training starts on Tuesday May 3 from 6pm to 7pm at Tavistock College. l Aquathlon (Swimrun) ?school years 5 to 10, girls and boys, started Saturday April 23 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, Meadowlands, Tavistock. l Basketball ? for children born in 1992 or 1993, girls and boys, started Wednesday April 27 from 6pm to 7pm at Parklands in Okehampton. l Cricket ? school years 8 and under, for girls, starting on Friday April 29 from 5pm to 6pm at Whitchurch Cricket Club. l Hockey ? school years 6 to 8, for boys and girls, starting on Monday April 25, 5pm to 6pm at Kelly College, Tavistock. l Netball ? school years 7 to 10, for girls, starting on Thursday April 28, from 5pm to 6pm at Kelly College, Tavistock. l Tennis ? school years 6 to 8, girls and boys, starting on Saturday May 7 from 11am to 12 noon at Okehampton Tennis Club. l Tag rugby ? school years 6 and below for boys and girls school years 9 and below, starting on Sunday May 8 from 11am to noon at Tavistock Rugby Club.
