GOOD causes in the Okehampton area have benefitted thanks to the fundraising efforts of a sports club.

A total of £1,100 was distributed between three local good causes at a presentation ceremony organised by Sticklepath Sports Club on Monday.

Girl guiding-Okehampton was awarded £400 towards the new Okehampton Guide hut. Okehampton Rainbow Brownies received £100 and Sticklepath Parish Council was given £600 towards the children's play area.

The presentations were made at Sticklepath's Devonshire Inn and the funds were raised by the sports club over the last 12 months.

The club usually recognises two good causes each year, but with the Girl Guide movement in its centenary year this year, and with the recent start of the Rainbow Brownies in Okehampton, it was felt that an extra donation to the Brownies would be a good way to celebrate both events.

Cheques were presented by Ann Verner Jefferys, chairperson of the sports club, to Toni Parkhouse, Girl guiding Okehampton. Jackie Reynolds and Alison Dennis, of Rainbow Brownies, and Paul Grey, of Sticklepath Parish Council.

The sports club expressed huge thanks to all who took part in the last pram race and to all the local people and businesses who helped to make it happen. It is because of their participation and co-operation that the donations were possible.

The pram race this year will be held on Sunday October 3.

The sports club will hold its annual meeting on Monday April 26 at 7pm — all are welcome.
