THE annual Devon Youth Games held in Torbay this month saw more than 1,500 competitors take part in the biggest youth sports event ever held in the county.
Ten district teams took part entering the games in nine different sports events from hockey to tag rugby.
The 200-strong West Devon Youth Games Team — wearing purple shirts sponsored by Devonport Management Limited (DML) and navy baseball caps sponsored by Plymouth T-shirt firm Frontline - were in high spirits particularly after former Olympic champion Tessa Sanderson, who opened the Games, wished them well.
With teams competing in hockey, girls football, tag rugby, swimming, basketball, cricket, tennis, athletics and netball, success was in the air. Teams competing came from Tavistock, Okehampton and Kelly Colleges and also Mary Tavy, Lydford and Whitchurch Primary Schools.
All the competitors and team managers competed with great enthusiasm and their efforts were rewarded.
The closing ceremony saw West Devon win the Fair Play Trophy.
All athletes who competed at the games came home with a medal.
