A SPONSORED cycle ride from Land?s End to John O?Groats in aid of a charity that provides children and adults with disabilities with camping facilities will be passing through the West Devon and East Cornwall area next month. The Surrey-based charity, Woodlarks Camp Site Trust, has organised the event to raise money for a building project at their site near Farnham, which aims to replace the back-up buildings. A further £300,000 is needed. The camp site enables children and adults with disabilities to enjoy a host of activities they may never have thought possible and discover unknown skills and abilities, have adventures and make new friends in an environment designed to meet their individual needs. Woodlarks has been welcoming disabled campers for over 70 years. Around a thousand people, disabled and their helpers, come for week-long camps each summer. Many of the camps are staffed entirely by volunteers. There will be three riders taking part, two of them connected with woodlands and trees. Craig Southwell is a tree surgeon and Tim Dicker, a committee member, is a forester. Tim?s wife will be following them in a van with their camping tent. They are expected to cover the Liskeard to Moretonhampstead stretch of the route, via Gunnislake and Tavistock, on September 9.
