THE first matches of Okehampton Netball League were played on September 9.
In division 1, newly promoted Cheriton Flyers played last season's runners-up Speedwells.
This was a close match with both teams producing excellent netball.
The final score saw Speedwells winning 38 goals to 32 — a credible start to dvision 1 by Cheriton and a solid performance by Speedwells despite being without some of their regular players.
Players of the match were Bev Benn for Speedwells and Sarah Toms for Cheriton.
In division 2 Red Devils played Shooting Starz. This was a good first match for Red Devils with an excellent performance from the young newly formed team Shooting Starz.
Shooting Starz set a fast and furious pace with Red Devils playing catch-up throughout, but it was Red Devils who clinched it in the last few seconds to win 14 goals to 13.
Players of the match were Jacky Davey for Red Devils and jointly for Shooting Starz Jess Day and Amanda Simms.
