FORMER pupils, parents and friends are invited to a special service to mark the retirement of Meavy Primary School headteacher Mary Williamson. Mrs Williamson will be leaving at the end of the term, and the service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held at St Peter?s Church in Meavy on Tuesday, July 18 at 6.30pm, followed by a short reception in the parish hall. Mrs Williamson has been a teacher for 27 years, the last 14 being spent as headteacher at the school. During that time the building has been extended and improved and the sports field purchased. A representative of the school said Ms Williamson?s ?approachability, her wise, committed leadership and her obvious affection for both the school and its pupils? had meant the children received the very best of education at all levels. Mrs Williamson is leaving the teaching profession to take up training towards ordination in the Church of England.
