MARINERS Away Shanty Crew from South Zeal are teaming up with Dartmoor folk choir The Lost Sound from Buckfastleigh for a special night of singing at Tavistock Town Hall on Saturday, June 3.

Mariners Away also have a busy summer season ahead. They are singing at Gloucester Shanty Festival at the end of May and at Falmouth International Shanty Festival in June as well as local events.

Steve Mathewson from the crew said: We love singing in all kinds of venues from small bars to large festivals and concerts. We are delighted to join The Lost Sound and looking forward to a fabulous night of singing!’

The Lost Sound recently supported the award winning folk duo Show Of Hands in their 25th anniversary concert at The Royal Albert Hall.

Director of the choir, Sandra Smith, said: ’Performing at the Albert Hall has to be one of the most exhilarating events we have ever sung at. Looking out to 5,000 people watching you is something you don’t forget!’

The positive feedback about the choir has meant that they have now also been booked to appear with Show Of Hands at this year’s Sidmouth Folk Festival on August 6.

Sandra said: ’We are really excited to meet up with Mariners Away again. The crew came to help out with a singing project and concert at our local primary school back in 2011 and the town has never forgotten it! They were fantastic.’
