‘HELP us save Kingdon House Tavistock for the community’ — that is the call from the community association after urgent attention was advised to save the building for future use.
The community association of Kingdon House Tavistock needs to raise £100,000 in less than a year and has called on the local public to help.
A special meeting has been organised for this Saturday (July 1) at 11am at Kingdon House and all are invited.
For the last 40 years, thousands of people have used Kingdon House — many have enjoyed creative activities inspired by the natural light that floods the studio. Others have benefited from the advice offered by groups such as the Citizen’s Advice Bureau — but all this is now in jeopardy.
Faced with urgent repair works, Tavistock Town Heritage Initiative has offered the community association £30,000 providing that the group raises a further £100,000 by the end of May 2018.
Manager of Kingdon House Tavistock Karen Woodward has appealed to local residents and supporters of Kingdon House to come forward and help save the much-loved building.
‘Kingdon House Tavistock is run by the Tavistock community for the people of the town. The building needs a lot of love and attention and to start with we will need to do the outside of the building, to stop the leaks but we need to raise the necessary funds to make this possible.
‘We want the building to move with the times and we are asking for all the community to come forward to help — whether they have ideas on how to raise money, or on how to transform the inside of the building for use for the whole community — we want people to come along and tell us what they would like to do and help us in this process of saving Kingdon House.
‘It’s a community building and it is something to be proud of.’
