YEAR 7 pupils from Mount House Prep School in Tavistock enjoyed an art class with a difference at Buckland Abbey recently. The pupils were the first school visitors able to view the newly unveiled Rembrandt self portrait, painted by the Old Dutch Master in 1635, in its special exhibition room at the Abbey in Buckland Monachorum. The pupils were able to practise their self-portrait art skills in multi-media formats: traditional sketch work as well as a more high tech popular approach using cameras to take 'selfies'. Joanna Tribe, head of art at Mount House School, said: 'This school trip was an extraordinary opportunity for our pupils to enjoy first-hand an example of an important self-portrait by one of the world's greatest artists.' The pupils' work will be exhibited as part of the school's annual art show today (Thursday), June 26 and tomorrow.
