THE ladies of the Yelverton friends of the Children's Hospice South West are determined to make this year a special one — they have set themselves a target of £20,000 to help build Little Harbour, the new children's hospice which will look after families from this area.
This month they are organising the second 'Ben's Day' at Coombe Fisheries near Buckland Abbey. As well as the family dog show, barbecue, stalls and refreshments, there will be a vintage tractor run from the fisheries around Burrator Reservoir and back.
Entrance is always by donation so that all the family can afford to come along.
Mr Fowley, the canine TV star, will be putting in an appearance and singing autographs for his fans at the event, on May 23.
The ladies are also looking for any old and even broken costume jewellery to sell at events as their supply is low.
Sheila Glanville said: 'We do really well selling re-cycled jewellery on our stall, as what one lady has got bored with, will be perfect for someone else.
'We even have regular customers who come to us looking for the exact colour to go with a new outfit, but our stocks are very low.'
If anyone has old and unloved jewellery hiding in the back of drawers or jewellery boxes, the ladies would be very grateful for it.
Even broken jewellery can be turned into new pieces and all items of worth will be valued by an independent jeweller and sold at auction if appropriate.
If you have anything at all, please either drop it in at Yelverton Post Office or call 01837 52365 to arrange collection.
