TAVISTOCK'S Royal Mail sorting office came to a short halt recently as staff watched a fellow postman in a close shave.

Keith Ewings lost his hair, beard and moustache to the razor held by colleague Steve Abbott to raise money for charity.

Through donations from friends, Royal Mail staff, residents on Keith's post rounds and shoppers at Morrisons in Tavistock, Keith raised around £380 for Tregarland Care Home in Whitchurch Road, Tavistock, which cares for people with learning disabilities.

Keith said: 'Last October I went on holiday and just let my hair and beard grow. I was going to trim it when I got back anyway so thought I would try to raise some money for Tregarland Care Home by doing it.'

Keith's son Adam, who works at Morrisons, helped to raise the money.

'My son took a sponsorship form into Morrisons and collected about £139 from the shoppers. Altogether I raised far more money than I expected. I was hoping for enough just to make £100, so I am very pleased.

'Tregarland Care Home does such a good job caring for their residents and I know the money raised will go directly to them for parties and trips. It's a very deserving cause.'

With his hair cut, Keith is now looking like his normal self and is in the process of growing back the moustache, which has been a feature of his for a number of years.
