THE Sticklepath and Okehampton Conservation Group celebrated their 20th anniversary last Friday.

The group gathered at Taw Bottom Guide Camp in South Tawton to celebrate the occasion with a buffet lunch.

Mike Watson from the group said: 'It was a big social session of a day really, with everyone chatting and enjoying the wonderful lunch laid on by Margaret Allen from the Victorian Pantry.

'It was a lovely day meeting up with sponsors and supporters of the group, and seeing old members we've not seen for years.'

The voluntary team of over 40 members undertakes a variety of work in the area, including their involvement with the Skaigh Bridge replacement scheme, giving a new coat of whitewash to the White Rock in Sticklepath and the maintenance of local footpaths and cycle trails.

In July, STOC were recognised for their efforts by winning second place in the Dartmoor National Park Authority's Edward Morshead Award in July.

The award acknowledges significant contributions to the preservation and protection of the park's scenic beauty and heritage.

The group is always looking for new members.
