A HATHERLEIGH man will be taking a break from his training for the London Marathon to hold a concert next month to boost his fundraising efforts for the Children?s Hospice South West.

Ian Strawbridge from Hatherleigh has been accepted for this year?s London Marathon and will raise money for the North Devon-based charity.

The Clinton Hall at Merton will be the venue for a performance by Joey the Lips next month. The soul roots band are back by popular demand after wowing the audience at last year?s Hatherleigh Festival.

The show is being organised by Mr Strawbridge with Trish Wonnacott, and proceeds will be split between the children?s hospice and Devon Air Ambulance.

It is hoped the event will raise £750 towards Mr Strawbridge?s London Marathon fundraising effort, more than half the minimum backing he needs to take part in the race this April.

Mr Strawbridge took part in the Hatherleigh to Holsworthy Ruby Run last year, but he is already in training as the London Marathon will be the first full distance race he has ever entered.

The concert takes place at Merton Village Hall on Saturday, February 7, 8pm and midnight.

Tickets are available by calling Mr Strawbridge on 01837 810786 or by dropping into the office of Richard Tidball Insurance Services. A bus will be running from Hatherleigh to Merton on the evening of the concert.

Mr Strawbridge expressed thanks to the village hall committee at Merton for giving the hall free of charge.
